100 Book Challenge

Welcome to our 100 Book Challenge! It is our expectation that students read 30 minutes in school and 30 minutes at home every day. We measure our student’s reading practice in STEPS. One STEP = 15 minutes of reading. So each day, Pinewood students will read 2 steps at school and 2 steps at home. Students will be recording their number of steps on their reading logs.

Every student is working at an appropriate independent reading level that should be fast, fun, and easy. The 100 Book Challenge measures growth using the 2010 National Common Core Standards for reading proficiency. Both books and students are leveled based on what readers need to know and be able to do at each of the five developmental stages of reading acquisition.
