Elementary School

Michael Gjere

We are off to the races and another exciting year in 5th grade. This is my first year at Pinewood Elementary. I began my teaching career 25 years ago as a second grade teacher in Saint Paul. I have also worked as a technology teacher with fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students and as a curriculum coordinator. This year I look forward to teaching all the exciting things that 5th graders get to learn .

You will find many useful links for your child on my computer links page. I update these regularly to match topics and skills we are learning in class.

You can expect your child to bring extra papers home every Thursday. Theses extra papers will include information important to parents about activities in our classroom as well as school-wide activities and events.

Students will be assigned reading homework Monday-Friday. Students will always have 2 Steps of independent reading each night. Please check and sign these reading logs nightly. On occasion we will have additional homework assignments. I believe homework reinforces what has been learned in the class, extends and generalizes concepts, teaches responsibility and helps students develop positive study habits. Students will also use their daily planners to help organize homework assignments and other classroom projects.
